Okay, so I know I haven’t written in a while, but I’m sure we’ve all been busy parents. Back to school this year was a little different. Last year, we tried online public school at the beginning of Kindergarten. It was a good program, but it didn’t work out for us.
This year, we took the traditional route right from the start, Edward was transferred in the middle of the term his Kinder year, He loves it! I am so happy and he feels much more independent. There are moments when he misses his mommy, but for the most part, it seems to be going well.
There are still those moments when I am hesitant about going to meetings, as the accessible entrances are not clearly marked (due to fading paint, not unlawful activity). The school itself is divided into two buildings, which can get a little confusing and is a hassle even with my power chair. The staff is amazing and they are more than willing to help me navigate the parking lot.
The issues with the entrances definitely need to be pointed out to my local government, and I am working on that. Change is a process and it takes time. Right now, I am just grateful that he enjoys school. And, though it is not an easy feat to face challenges like a precocious six-year-old, first-grade homework, or weirdly placed ramps, everyone faces their own version of life. I am just grateful to have the gift of living, and to be able to enjoy the first grade with my son!
