The PRC is staffed with Information Specialists who can provide individualized support via phone/email, answering questions related to paralysis such as what to expect in rehab and where to find the best equipment exchange programs, and will easily direct you to a wealth of information. In addition, the PRC offers Quality of Life Grants, a program that provides funding to fellow nonprofit organizations, and a peer mentoring program in which the person living with paralysis or a caregiver is matched with a peer mentor with similar experience.
The PRC offers a depth of knowledge that spans multiple languages, educational materials (fact sheets, Paralysis Resource Guide, wallet cards), and a lending library which houses over 5,000 books and videos which are lent through interlibrary loan or directly to one’s home with return postage. The “Paralysis Resource Guide” is available for free in print in English and Spanish and parts of it are available online in other languages. The self-help website, paralysis.org, includes an online community where one can ask questions of others living with paralysis or receive answers from a nurse who specializes in SCI or a licensed psychotherapist who lives with SCI.
